To begin our topic, “Victorian Blackpool”, we visited Blackpool Library.  Here the librarian, Tony Sharkey, taught us about how to use historic resources to find out what Blackpool was like in Victorian times.  We looked at photographs, census records, Victorian newspapers, school books and school attendance records (often having to read old Victorian handwriting!)

Year 6 used their research skills and the primary resources available to find out lots of new facts about what life in Victorian Blackpool was like.  We’ll next visit some important buildings in Blackpool to find out why the Victorians decided to build them.
