Winter Gardens

Posted by Mr Waywell on Nov-5-2015

Today Year 6 continued our study of Victorian Blackpool by visiting the Winter Gardens.

On arrival we were met by our two tour guides, Mike and Dez. We then took time to look at the outside of the building and learn why it was built in Victorian times. From the outside we moved indoors and were able to look around the HUGE building.  In the visit we saw:

  • The Opera House – a huge theatre that the Queen has visited twice!
  • The ballroom – with chandeliers and lots of tables ready for a dinner party
  • The dressing rooms – that several of our girls have already got changed ready to perform!
  • A room where the Queen has sat and drank tea
  • Some amazing tiles that were only discovered recently
  • The bottom and top of the dome

Overall we had an interesting visit and are now a little wiser about Blackpool in Victorian times.

Next week we are at the library.
