Water Park Day 5

Posted by Mr Waywell on Jun-29-2018

Year 6 were on great form this morning.  By 8:30 we had packed out bags, tidied our rooms, made lunch, eaten breakfast and washed up!

All of the groups took part in high rope activities today, pushing themselves to the limits.

The week has flown by and Year 6 have been amazing.  The Water Park staff have made many comments about how pleasant and well-behaved the children are.  We are very proud teachers!

Thanks for all of your comments.

Water Park Day 4 More Photos

Posted by Mr Waywell on Jun-28-2018

I’m sorry, for some reason the other photos are today too large  (file size) to upload onto our blog.

I will take all of the photos back to school and children will have the opportunity to save some themselves to show you at home.

Water Park Day 4

Posted by Mr Waywell on Jun-28-2018

Today red team were on their journey day.  They took a trip to Cathedral Quarries where they explored the cave.  At one point they had to walk into the deeper part with a candle lit and then when everyone was together blow them out – lots of the children have said how exciting it was!  It was then time for the team to get their ice creams in the village.  After a cool down the children boarded a large catamaran and sailed back to Water Park.

Blue team began their day with some outdoor climbing.   We sailed across the water and then climbed up to the quarry.  Here every member of the group managed to climb to the top of the cliff face.  They were so confident they started to have climbing races!  After lunch the group did some kayaking though they were so keen to jump in the water, the kayaking came second place to jumping in whenever they could.  We launched our kayaks of the jetty then spent the rest of the afternoon swimming.

Pink team had a wet day too.  They began their day by kayaking and all really got to grips with what to do so they were whizzing around the water with plenty of challenges from their leader.   In the afternoon they had a lot of fun splashing around in the water before trying some paddle boarding.  All of them said this was lots of fun!  The children ended their day on Jacobs Ladder.  This high rope activity is a tricky one where children have to climb to the top of  a giant ladder.  The aim is to get the whole team to stand on the top…Pink Team managed it.  The leaders and teachers were extremely impressed with them!

Half of the class are now settling down to watch football whilst the others are outside listening to music.

Water Park Day 3

Posted by Mr Waywell on Jun-27-2018

We’re a little more tired this morning with only 3 bedrooms waking up themselves.

Making lunch is now a slick machine and children were very quick.  Bacon butties for breakfast went down a treat too!

The weather today is beautiful so children are layering up in sun-cream!

Blue group took part in their journey day today.  We began with a short drive to Ravens Crag.   Here the group put on harnesses and ropes and learned how to scramble (a cross between mountain climbing and hiking).  The children were great at and pushed their own limits to make it to the top…the views were amazing!  The hike down was a hot one so we rewarded ourselves with an ice cream and a splash in the water when we made the bottom.   After the walk, we took a catamaran down the lake back to Water Park where we jumped in to cool off!

Pink group were also on journey day.  There day took them to Coniston where they walked 3 miles to reach the town.  Once there, they treated themselves to an ice cream in the sun.   Their next challenge was to sail their way back to Water Park.  The instructors expected this to be a struggle with the warm weather however they were wrong, the group were brilliant at it and got much further than they thought.

Red group began the day climbing.  Again Mrs Whitehead was very impressed and nearly all of them made it to the top!  Again she couldn’t believe how they pushed themselves when they were feeling scared.  After lunch they took to the water for some kayaking.  Though a few ended up in the water, they managed to make it across to the jetty.  Here their instructor put them onto the platform in their kayaks and then pushed them off into the water…the group loved it!

Meatballs for tea went down a treat and now the group are off outside for another games session.   They have loved the phone calls and especially your comments on the blog.  Thank you!

Water Park Day 2

Posted by Mr Waywell on Jun-26-2018

After a sunny first day and lots of exercise, most children were asleep by 10:30 last night.

Today children had to wake to make their own pack lunches at 7:30.   Everyone managed and then we tucked into a cooked breakfast before today’s activities.

Pink group began the day with some ghyll scrambling.  All of the group got stuck in as they climbed up the ghyll with lots of opportunities to jump in the water.   Teachers were very impressed with the effort made and teamwork (though they pretended it had sharks…with some of the children believing them!)  In the afternoon they took part in some high ropes.  Again the group were very brave and gave it their best shot in climbing the totem pole and the wrecking ball.  So many overcame their fears with everyone jumping off the wrecking ball.

Blue group also began the day with some ghyll scrambling.  Again they all embraced the activity, climbing quickly, jumping in all of the pools and impressed the leaders with their determination so much that the group were challenged to climb the last part of the ghyll.  Everyone who wanted to got into harnesses and used ropes to climb to the top.  Once there, they slid down a large stone into a pool of water.  (I did it and know how scary it was…so those who did were very brave!)  In the afternoon we got some tandem canoes and paddled down Lake Coniston with some stop-offs to play games.  With the beautiful weather it was a lovely day out!

Red group began their day with the high ropes.  They also did the totem pole and Mrs Whitehead was really impressed at how the children overcame their fears and tried to stretch themselves.   The group then had fun on the low-rope assault course.  In the afternoon the group also went into the ghyll.   The team work was brilliant and Mrs Whitehead added that they were so thoughtful of each other’s feelings and supporting each other.

Everyone is now eating enchiladas for tea then we’re off to play games tonight.

Water Park Day 1

Posted by Mr Waywell on Jun-25-2018

We’ve just finished our first day on the lake and the class had a great time!

Each group had a tour of the house and the grounds (the children are so excited about how big it is) and then unpacked in their bedrooms (again very excited).

After lunch each group took part in some problem solving activities around the grounds and then learnt how to make  a raft.  The challenge was then to race around the lake (well done Blue team for taking the win!) Children then had some challenges to complete on their rafts.

The weather is beautiful so after our raft building we all got chance to have a swim in Lake Coniston.

Everyone is now having a play outside in the sun before tea and a spot of orienteering tonight.

We’ve arrived at Coniston!

The sun is shining, the children are outside playing their first games and everyone is very excited!

I will try to update with some news any pictures every evening.  If you leave a comment, I’ll read these out to the children (they usually love them…especially cute ones with hugs and kisses)

Boosters Camping

Posted by Mr Waywell on Jun-25-2018

As a well done and thank you for all of the effort in Booster classes, we held a camping night on the school field.

Though we didn’t have much sleep, the weather was lovely and we had lots of fun out on the field.  There was also time to play games in the hall and plenty of Year 6 bucks won along the way!

Morning woke us up at 5:3o for most of the group and sadly some soggy tents.  Not to worry, Spongebob and toast in the hall saved us!

Pendle Hill

Posted by Mr Waywell on Jun-5-2018

Well done to our Walking Club for making it to the top of Pendle Hill.

It was a steep climb and a few stops were needed along the way, however the weather was lovely and we got all the way to the top!

Making Blood

Posted by Mr Waywell on Jun-5-2018

As part of our science topic we followed instructions to make ‘mock’ blood.

It was very sticky/messy work however the end results showed the layers of the blood:

  • Red blood cells
  • White blood cells
  • Platelets
  • Plasma
