Waterpark Day 4

Green Group had a lovely morning sailing down Lake Coniston on the catamarans. They learnt how to steer the boat using the force of the wind. When they arrived at their destination they had a lovely picnic in the sunshine and enjoyed an ice cream. They then walked down the side of Lake Coniston enjoying the countryside. The final part of their journey day was spent back on the lake where they sailed back to Waterpark for a lovely tea.

Blue group sailed on Lake Coniston first thing this morning learning how to become budding sailors, with some children zooming across the lake using the wind to propel them. Luckily no boats capsized and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the new experience.  Another wet afternoon followed with the children kayaking on the lake learning different methods of paddling.  The highlight of the afternoon was launching the kayaks off the jetty with the children inside them.  Once again no one capsized….What an amazing day Team Wetherlam!

The red group had a fantastic morning kayaking out on Lake Coniston, learning how to use their paddle to navigate along the water and through the wind. When they arrived at their destination, they enjoyed team games of kayak netball and world domination. They were able to practise their skills and had lots of fun, with only two capsizes! To finish off their morning session, the children slid down a canoe balanced on the jetty – it made a perfect slide and they got very wet. After lunch, we adventured through the woods and made our way to a local rock face. Harnessed up and raring to go, the children were extremely brave and resilient whilst they manoeuvred themselves towards the top, giving them all a spectacular view of the whole of Lake Coniston. All in all a perfect day!

Pink group took on an amazing challenge today – they walked to the top of the Old Man of Coniston!  The group arrived at the foot of the mountain at 11am and then made their way to the top with a few stops on the way and a lunch break by a beautiful tarn.  The children were so tired yet still soldiered on to make it to the top.  The children were very proud of themselves, as was I!  It took us 1 hour 40 minutes to get up there with our 20 minute lunch break (the fastest Year 6 group our instructor has ever had!)  With our record time we had time to walk down the far side of the mountain to take in the scenic view and have our second lunch by a second tarn.  In all we walked 10km and climbed a height of 500m…amazing!

Water Park Day 3

Another restful night with lots more children needing waking in the morning.

Day 2 of making our own packed lunches was much more successful we then had crumpets for breakfast and got ready for our activities.

Pink Group:  They began their day with some climbing.  The group paddled a canoe across Coniston water and then took a short walk up to the cliff face.  Here everyone was able to climb to the top more than once.   After lunch the group went out for some kayaking.   They learned how to paddle their own kayak and played some games (and splashed lots).  Then the group spent the rest of the afternoon jumping off a jetty into the water or sliding into the water on the back of a giant canoe…lots of fun!

Red Group:  Today was their journey day.  The day began with a walk up onto the hills behind Waterpark.  Everyone said that the views were amazing!  Back on the lower ground, the group had a picnic lunch by the water in the beautiful sunshine.   They made their way back to Waterpark on two group sailing boats.

Green Group:  The children had a busy day today; they began their day with three different team-building activities and then time on the low-ropes course.  After lunch they took to the water for some kayaking – again they proved to be great using the boats on their own.  Finally the children paired up to take part in a sailing activity. They were whipping down the lake in no time!

Blue Group:  Blue group were also on their journey day today.   They began by taking a short mini bus ride to Hodge Close Quarry where they learnt about how slate was mined in the past.  The views from the top and inside the quarry were spectacular! We then journeyed on, walking through some beautiful countryside. Next the children visited Little Langdale Quarry where they ventured into a cave by candlelight and were very brave to exit the cave using teamwork and their sense of touch alone……very scary!! Well Done children!

Water Park Day 2

Everyone slept well last night, with most children needing waking up at 7:30.  Their first challenge of the day was to make their own packed lunch (some more successful than others!)

Pink Group began the day with some sailing.  They took to it quickly and in no time were zig-zagging across Coniston a full speed (the instructors where very impressed.)   In the afternoon it was time for some ghyl scrambling and the team took to this well too.  Everyone took part in every challenge and every jump and was voted the best activity so far this week!

Red Group started their day on the ghyl.  Again everyone got stuck into the task, finding out that they loved the water (particularly James – who fell in at every opportunity).  In the afternoon the group to a group canoe over to the island on Coniston.  Here they played a few games and made a fire to make hot chocolate.  To keep their spirits high, they made up a few songs to sing all of the canoe journey back.

Green Group took to the water this morning.  First they practised their skills on some group canoes in pairs.  Once they had mastered the technique, they got their own kayak each and set off again on the water.  All of them did a brilliant job!   In the afternoon it was the groups turn on the ghyl.  Again they excelled in the challenge and all pushed themselves to take part in the activities.

Blue Group started their day at the ghyl too and, like to other groups, loved it!  They all got stuck into the activities and loved how wet they got.  In the afternoon the group did some indoor climbing.  Though some found it difficult, everyone pushed themselves to achieve their best climbs.  Mrs Pearce was so impressed with the team work from the group!

Tonight is lasagne for tea then we’re off to play more games.

The children loved last night’s comment…thank you!

Water Park Day 1

Apologies for the late post.  We have had a power cut for the past 5 hours, thankfully everything is back to normal now.

We’ve arrived safely (the coach cheered when we saw the mansion) and the children where taken off to explore their new surroundings.  Everyone was very excited at their rooms and the size of the grounds, especially as Consiton Water is in walking distance.

After lunch we split off into our groups for some team-building activities followed by raft building.  Mrs Knight and Mrs Whitehead’s group managed to beat everyone else in the final race!  We finished the afternoon with some splashing around and jumping in the water.

After pizza and salad for tea, the children are now out playing games with one of the instructors.

I’ll get some pictures up as soon as I can.

If you leave any comments, I will read them out to the children before bed.

Thanks
